Five Questions With Matt Hoyt

NAIOP Representative on CALV Board

Release Date: March 15, 2023 at 11:00 AM

Meet longtime local commercial real estate pro Matthew Hoyt, who is representing NAIOP Southern Nevada on the CALV Board of Directors for 2023.

To find out more about him, we asked him these quick questions:

1. How long have you been involved with NAIOP?

  • I’ve been a NAIOP member since 2008, and my first experience with the organization was as a student volunteer at a chapter event. Through the years, I have served on multiple committees and task forces, sat as chair of our Membership and DLI Committees, and now hold a position on the Board of Directors and Executive Committee. My time in NAIOP has been the best investment I’ve made in my career and I’ve created my best working relationships through individuals I’ve met through the organization.

2. How long have you been involved with CALV?

  • My involvement with CALV is more recent. I was lucky enough to win a raffle item CALV was giving away at NAIOP’s Bus Tour in 2021. I received a CALV membership and tickets to attend the Spring Mixer and Symposium in the fall. I found excellent value in both and was asked by NAIOP to be their liaison to CALV in 2023.

3. What prompted you to join NAIOP and get more involved?

  • I joined NAIOP in my second year in the industry. My prior company is a strong supporter of the chapter and our principal was involved with chapter leadership. I immediately joined the Bus Tour Committee in an effort to grow my broker network. Eventually I applied to the DLI program (Developing Leaders Institute) and became more involved in the following years and I tested the waters on multiple committees. Eventually, the Membership Committee called my name, and that’s where I’ve spent most of my time with NAIOP.

4. What’s your job, and what’s your favorite part of your job?

  • In June of 2022, I joined LaPour as the Vice President of Finance and Operations. We’re a regional development firm with projects in Nevada, Arizona and Colorado. My background in the industry spanned over 15 years in commercial mortgage banking, and making the transition to the development side of the industry has been an excellent experience. I absolutely love my job, and enjoy using the skillset learned from mortgage banking, then applying it to development. The best part of making the career shift is I’m still entrenched within the CRE community (which I love), while continuously learning and growing by seeing the industry from a different perspective.

5. What’s one thing most people would be surprised to know about you?

  • Spring semester, sophomore year of college, I moved to Tucson, Arizona and walked on to Pima Junior College’s track & field team after emailing the coach and introducing myself two months prior. By the end of the semester, I found myself part of our 4 x 800-meter relay team that ended up at the National Championships. We medaled, and became Junior College All-Americans. After that single semester, I ran out of money and came back home to Las Vegas, track & field career over. Ohhhh, to be young again!
