President Joe Biden requested historic funding for housing supply in his federal budget proposal for the fiscal year that begins Oct. 1, 2022. The proposal was released Monday.   A requested 34% increase over last year for the Department of Housing and Urban Development includes $50 billion in grants and loans to increase the supply of affordable housing. This amount includes $32 billion for the Housing Choice Voucher Program and nearly $2 billion for the HOME Investment Partnership to create more affordable homeownership opportunities.

Breaking News: President Biden Targets Supply

On Tuesday, March 15, 2022, President Joe Biden signed the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2022, a $1.5 trillion omnibus spending package to keep the government running and funded through September 30. The bill includes NAR advocacy priorities, including fair and affordable housing, flood insurance, and small business administration.

In recent weeks, the Carrara Nevada lobbying team has seen a series of emails targeting unsuspecting REALTORS® about the potential passage of two bills from the last legislative session: AB141 (no cause eviction notification timelines) and AB161 (summary eviction). Titled "More Government Rule," the email says that "the Nevada Legislature is proposing to make it even more difficult to get rid of naughty tenants."
