Release Date: June 15, 2023 at 9:19 AM

Juneteenth or Freedom Day marks the arrival of Union troops in Galveston Bay, Texas, on June 19, 1865, with news of freedom for enslaved African Americans. This was nearly two years after President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation to abolish slavery. In 2021, Juneteenth became a national federal holiday, marking a significant milestone in highlighting the importance of the day and its impact on American history.

Each year, Las Vegas hosts a Juneteenth Festival, which provides a space for people to come together, celebrate, and educate themselves. The festival is an opportunity to learn more about the African American community's achievements and contributions and celebrate the progress.
